Captain America Captain America has been the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum, in order to aid the United States government's imminent efforts in World War II.
Chapter 4: The Self and Interaction
Resocialization- The process of replacing previously learned norms and values with new ones as apart of a transition in life.
Steve Rodgers aka Captain America fits this description because he was a government experiment during World War II to create an all around better soldier. Near the end of the war, he was trapped in ice and froze over and then was revived in present day. He wasn't used to our technology and had to learn our new ways of doing things. Especially with our tactic, weapons and vehicles.
Chapter 6: Deviance
Innovators- Individuals who accept society's approved goals but still operate according to society's approved means. Pg. 157
When Steve Rodgers is unfrozen from his sleep and is introduced to the new military, he doesn't fully agree with how things are done nowadays. He does however accept them and doesn't go against them. He just does things a little differently than the norm of things because he thinks differently than current soldiers and generals. You also have to remember he was fighting in WWII and things were much differently back then.
Chapter 8: Race and Ethnicity as Lived Experience
Individual Discrimination- Discrimination carried out by one person against another. Pg. 223
In "Captain America" after Steve is unfrozen and introduced to the new world and to the new army that he is to join and work with, a few of the head generals make fun of him and how he views the army and how the army wants to handle their missions. They made him feel in a sense, like a loner because he viewed and did things differently then how things were done in the present time. Steve quickly proved the generals wrong and made them realize he can do things just as good, if not better than they can.
Chapter 10: The Macro-Micro Link in Social Institutions: Politics, Education, and Religion
Education- The process by which a society transmits its knowledge, values, and expectations to its members so they can function effectively.
pg. 294
Once Steve is unfrozen and ready for war again, he must be taught A LOT about how the war is now vs. WWII and how the weapons, equipment, and even the technology is much more advanced than it was during WWII. Steve had to learn a lot from generals and other soldiers so that he would be capable of fighting along side them and also know any code words or formations they would be using when attacking an enemy.
Chapter 11: The Economy and Work
Industrial Revolution- The rapid transformation of social life resulting from the technological and economic developments that began with the assembly line, steam power, and urbanization. pg. 320
I can't think of a better super hero to use with this term other than Captain America. He was fighting during WWII and was unfrozen in the 21st century. Most of you should know that the technological improvements between these 2 times was very significant. Steve (Captain America), had to lean all new tactics and uses of different machines and weapons for war. It wasn't like how it was back in WWII. He had to go up against much stronger enemies with much, much stronger weapons.
